God bless Texas

So, I'm sitting in Dallas, TX. My flight was supposed to leave at 7:35 pm...luckily it was delayed because my flight into Texas didn't land on time because of storms.
I flew from Madison to Dallas where I was supposed to land around 4:45...at around 5:30 we were still circling the airport. According to our pilot, we had "depleted our gas supply" (very reassuring) and had to fly to Kansas to refuel. Fifteen minutes later we arrive in Kansas...and get radioed that we can't land because all ports were full...so we kept flying to Arkansas. Twenty minutes later we were able to land in Arkansas...without fuel apparently. And then had to wait about half hour before we could take off to Dallas again. Mind you, I had a flight to Buenos Aires at 7:35.
We FINALLY land in Dallas at 7:20 and taxi through the airport for FOURTEEN minutes...it took forever. Luckily we docked in the international gate (D) where I had my flight. And to add to the stress of making my next flight, I sat in the VERY back row.
SO, I run off the plane and SPRINT through the airport with a huge backpack, purse, and beach bag. I bet it got some laughs for sure!!
I finally arrived at my proper gate where I was informed that my flight was delayed until 9:30. I took a seat among the group and happened to sit next to one of the only English speakers. Some 55 year old guy from TX has been telling me about his kids and high schools days for the better part of an hour. It was nice conversation, but luckily my named was called for a seat change so I could escape and get some McDonald's.
Yes, its been crazy so far, but that is what makes it fun.
Hopefully this next flight will be a little less...fun. :)

Bones

The pale shell begins to darken with rain,
so that the droplets look like camera flashes against the wet skin.
They slam into the exterior; a tiny collision.
Heaven meets earth, then melts into the divots and grooves of the bony surfaces
that I use to keep myself upright.
The square foot beneath me stays firmly planted, while the rest of my limbs swim through
molecules, forcing waves of sound and movement.

The structure that has formed around me changes, pulls, contracts.
I'll crash and slide until I will wither from lack of power,
or calcium.
I find
that I have spent most of my life
trying
to
lessen
the
impact.

Booked

"They have no idea how busy our lives can get here," Mom says.
"Who?" I ask.
"Your college friends," she says matter-of-factly.

Tractor pulls, golf outings, dairy breakfasts, small-town carnivals, grad parties.

Scrapbook

I found a newspaper clipping from when I was in 6th grade.
My haiku had been published:

I enjoy writing,
My words flow like a river,
flowing from my mind.
