Well I finally did it!! I got an online skype number. For my family/friends that live in the 715 area code, ya'll can call my number and it will forward to my skype account. I then set up call forwarding on skype so it will forward that call to my cellphone in Uruguay (once I buy one). For future reference, my number is 715-316-4300. So you can call me from your house or cell and I'll pick up in another hemisphere! The great thing is it literally costs me like 2 cents a minute!

de nuevo
I took a year off from blogging.
In that time period:
I graduated from Edgewood with a Bachelor of Arts in Spanish and Sociology
I worked at the Melting Pot and Brickhouse BBQ and learned alot about the joys and pains of working in a service industry.
I made the decision to move back to Montevideo, Uruguay. Right now the plan is to go for a few months; if I find a job, I'll stay indefinitely.

new semester
2 weeks into the new semester and I already can't believe how much reading has been assigned. Don't get me wrong though--I love my classes, so the reading is definitely a priority.
I'm taking:
Race & Ethnicity--An intense and very honest discussion about racial and social categorization within the United States...I love this class. I'm reading The Autobiography of Malcom X...this book is so interesting and I would recommend it to anyone trying to broaden their outlook and get a grasp of life in the United States during the Civil Rights Movement through the eyes of an African American male...good stuff!!
Prisons and Corrections in Society--We're learning about the American corrections systems and how crime and punishment is dealt with in the USA. Very interesting discussions and we're going to be taking tours of maximum security prisons!
Social Pyschology--The most radical branch of pyschology which often crosses over into Sociology. This is my passion!
Social Science Research--not the most rivoting of classes seeing as how it discusses HOW to research, but the actual experiments we study definitely keep my attention.
Sometimes I feel bad for other majors because they don't have as interesting classes :). I guess its a sign I'm in the right field when I LOVE what I am doing

returning
Although I am still the same Bailey that left the country five months ago, I am beginning to see the small differences. This is something that moves beyond the fact that my computer, phone, ipod, school notes, and many thought processes, now take place in Spanish instead of English. The adjustment has been, good, great, amazing...coming home to people who genuinely love you, makes it super easy.
That said, I am left with a few feelings. First, it sometimes feels like I never went to Uruguay...like the last 5 months of my life were just a dream. It was too good to be true, and now I'm here and nothing has changed. I still have to fit in the category I was in before I left, which is difficult, and mostly impossible. Secondly, I feel like I can do ANYTHING. I know I was a confident person before, but I feel absolutely no pressure to confine to any type of thinking. It is so easy to grow up in a certain mindset, and not realize that you do not have to conform to that.
So now I am left hanging up the Uruguayan flag above my bed and looking through pictures and letters left from those who guided me through my study abroad experience. It is actually physically painful most of the time to think about it; its a very weird feeling.
Video chat also makes it alot easier to get in touch with those far away...thank goodness for technology! I don't know what I would do if I couldn't speak in Spanish everyday! I love it so much...I get an immense high just from speaking Spanish. Its absolutely indescribable.

Beaches
This morning I'm off to Cabo Polonio and Punta del Diablo until Saturday! Cabo Polonio is a famous fishing town in Uruguay that has no electricity or running water and is known for its insane tranquilness. There are no roads that lead to this sand-dune surrounded coast so you have to take a bus to the outskirts and ride 4x4 vehicles in. Sand boarding is popular here...we'll see if I am brave enough to try! haha
Punta del Diablo is definitely alot more of an urban beach town. It is known to be full of "hippies" hanging out by the crystal clear blue water.
Needless to say, this is going to be a very stressful week!!!
